The Importance of Home
From the age of two, I felt a natural calling to help within my home. I have always enjoyed cleaning, organizing, and making each space cohesive with my living needs.
We didn't grow up with matching furniture or window treatments, but my mom kept our home spotless. Every meal was handmade. She taught me how to be present in what you have and how to care for a home. Her love filled our home with light, hope, and energy that we all grew from.
Home is sacred. It's where you come together with loved ones, where you lay your head, and where you nurture yourself and your family. It's where you build yourself to be the best you can be in this lifetime. Taking time to figure out what you need within it is one of the most important things you can do for your foundation of growth.
The Need for Functionality
This is something I've always felt deeply. I need functionality; my home needs to reflect who I am at the moment. It gives me strength and provides balance. It holds me through the night and in the early hours of the morning. It cradles my children and all their needs through each milestone of their lives.
My innate nature to create perfect spaces is reflected each day in my home. I adjust the lighting from the time I get up, opening the blinds to brighten each room with natural light. I put on a diffuser with the perfect blend of essential oils, depending on what we may be experiencing. I straighten the home in the morning before anyone gets up so that we all can begin each day with a fresh start.
Creating Healthy Habits
It depends on the season we are in. There have been frantic seasons where we rush through the home, but these daily routines have become habits. I've created healthy habits that I incorporate each day to keep my home balanced and peaceful. Each day is different, each room is different, but the overall goal is to bring peace and comfort to my home. Once the healthy habit is outlined, the implementation becomes second nature. I add to these intentional home habits and take some away when necessary.
The Journey of Helping Others
When I started out 16 years ago, my heart was set on helping women entering the workforce. For the first time in my life, I could see the shift. It seems like every year since then, the world has gotten bigger and faster. I've helped thousands of homes create functionality with my own hands. I take what I can feel and mastermind a Plan of Action for them, implementing it to the best of my mental, emotional, and physical ability. The bigger the mess, the more challenged I felt to help.
It's important to know what you have within your home and how to care for it. The energy that clutter creates is frantic and exhausting. It drains the energy from the space and fills your mind with worry and fear.
Understanding Design Preferences
When I got into design, it was interesting to see the clients who only wanted trending styles compared to those who knew what they wanted. Then there were clients who didn’t know but trusted me to create and implement their vision.
As I look back at all the work I have completed, I ask myself how I can teach people what I know and what's important to me. That is my mission: to help you find your zen home. I want to help you root down into the places you are, use what you have, and incorporate things you love to create the most harmonized home.
The Connection Between Energy and Design
After hiring hundreds of people over the years for organizing, design, construction, and decorating, I've realized that you can't teach someone how to organize and decorate unless they are rooted in a love for it. There is a deep connection between the energy of the home and the person working within it to create a certain outcome. If you do not carry that connection or passion for balance, then you will not achieve it.
Take, for instance, when you set out to clean your home. Your intention is to bring calmness to your space. Your heart is set on getting it cleaned, so you work with rhythm towards that, within the timeframe you have to clean it.
The Power of Intention
It's always the intention that will carry you through to the outcome. I'm on a mission to show you how to root down within the spaces you have and cultivate the things you need to become the most balanced and whole self possible.
By sharing my journey through life as a mother of four girls, building a business all by myself, losing a child, and trying to maintain balance through it all, I hope to inspire others. The key word is trying because, let’s be honest, life is not easy, and it is not zen all the time. However, the simple things I’ve incorporated into my own practices help me through the busiest days.
Embracing Imperfection
I'm not perfect; I'm a human living in the same lifetime as you. But one thing you will learn about me is that I never give up, and I never, ever say never. If you have a desire, I believe it is possible to achieve if you root down and plant yourself in the present moment or space. I believe those desires are primal, directing you towards the center or balance you need to grow towards the light.
In conclusion, creating a harmonious home is a journey. It requires intention, love, and the willingness to adapt. By embracing your unique needs and desires, you can cultivate a space that truly reflects who you are. Remember, your home is not just a place; it’s a sanctuary where you can thrive.
